Western Red Cedar is the premiere choice for exterior home use. It is naturally resistant to moisture, decay and insect damage because of the natural Tannins in the wood. Western red cedar is one of the world’s most durable woods.

Western Red Cedar can be left natural and will age to a rich silvery color. It also takes stains and paints equally well. Not all color is the same. There are many kinds of cedar like Inland, Northern White, and Japanese. For example, Japanese (sugi) is not a true Cedar. It is of the Cypress family. Many trees are called “cedar” around the world, but are not true cedar.

Ask your contractor to specify the species and grade of the fence boards.
